In 2020, the City of Louisville closed Main Street to vehicular traffic from Walnut Street to Elm Street in order to accommodate additional outdoor dining during the COVID-19 pandemic. The closure began on June 10 and continued through December 4.
The City is again considering a temporary closure of Main Street to vehicular traffic from late April to early November for 2021 to expand dining options. There may also be temporary closures Fridays on Front Street to accommodate special events that may occur in late summer. Although alternative options for the DASH bus detour were explored with RTD, similar to last year, bus routes would be rerouted onto Lafarge Avenue. Ultimately if a temporary closure is not approved, it is anticipated outdoor dining would still be accommodated in the on-street parking spaces with patio parklets.
We are seeking input from residents on a temporary closure. Please complete the survey below. The City’s Economic Vitality Committee is scheduled to discuss this issue on March 19 and City Council will take action on a proposed temporary closure plan on April 6. Both meetings are open to the public and available online via Zoom or by phone.
