Louisville's Crosswalk Beautification Brainstorm

How would you make the crosswalks on Pine, Johnson, Hoover, Polk, Dahlia, and Cherry more fun and visually interesting? The City of Louisville is looking for your ideas! Take a few minutes to share your thoughts as part of our brainstorm and help shape Louisville's Crosswalk Beautification Project.

Recent Construction

Over the last few months the City has been improving the safety and accessibility of many of Louisville's intersections and crosswalks with the aim of encouraging more walking and cycling in Louisville. The most notable work has been the investment in Pine Street as the City also works to deliver new bike lanes (due for completion by the end of August).

Opportunity

Now that the work to make the crosswalks and intersections safer and more accessible is almost complete, there's an opportunity to create a unique experience for pedestrians and cyclists at the crossings. But what will that look like? That's what we'd like to hear from you.

Fun, Beautiful, Safe, Sustainable

At present, the City is looking at 47 different areas - many of which are contained within the same intersection or crosswalk. So how do we think sustainably and minimize maintenance while creating something fun and beautiful? We're looking for ideas that are fun, beautiful, safe, and sustainable.

Something might be fun, but it might obstruct visibility for pedestrians. Something might be beautiful, but use too much water or cost too much to maintain in the long term, making it unsustainable. We need to balance all four criteria so please consider all four when making suggestions.

To give you some ideas we've included examples from other cities (which you can see in the pictures on the right). With sustainability in mind, you'll notice we haven't included any examples of landscaping as that isn't the direction this project will be taking.
