Background
On October 19th, Louisville City Council adopted Ordinance 1816, Series 2021. This ordinance amends Municipal Code Title 15, Building and Construction by:
Adopting the 2021 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) with amendments
Requires all new construction to be built to electric-ready standard with high-efficiency standards
Adopts Appendices CB and RB to add solar ready requirements
Adopts Appendix RC to require zero energy residential new construction, and
Amends Municipal Code Chapter 17.20, Off-street Parking and Loading to add electric vehicle charging requirements for residential and commercial buildings
The City is interested in exploring potential building codes that would further promote the City’s goals for energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction in new construction, including additional code amendments or a strategic roadmap for the adoption of all building electrification for residential and commercial construction and greenhouse gas reduction requirements for new commercial construction, which could include consideration of IECC Appendix CC Zero Energy Commercial Building Provisions or a similar code.
