About the Project
The City of Louisville Youth Advisory Board (YAB) is thrilled to announce the 2025 Pet Mayor Election! This “paw-litical” tradition is back, and we’re looking for furry, feathered, or scaly candidates to take up the leash of leadership.
In 2023, Hops and Arlo made history as Louisville’s first-ever co-pet mayors, a creative initiative launched by the 2022/2023 Youth Advisory Board. After two pawsome years of service, their term is coming to an end – and now it’s time to elect the next pet to lead Louisville!
Qualifications
The “purr-fect” candidate will:
- Reside in the City of Louisville
- Have a good temperament (as should their human spokesperson)
- Be an upstanding and respectable pet in the community
- Represent their constituents equally regardless of breed, species, and/or known tricks
- Be agreeable to having their photo taken and released by the City of Louisville
- Willing to attend special events throughout the year such as the Pet Parade
- Serve one (1) two-year term.
Enter Your Pet- Entries are now closed
Pet photos and bios can be submitted online from Wednesday, February 12 - Wednesday, February 26. Submissions close at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26. One entry per pet. Multiple entries from one owner are allowed. Registration is required to enter your pet.
TO REGISTER: Desktop: click on the register button in the top right corner. Mobile Device: Click on the hamburger menu at the top right corner and select "Register"
The election’s success is dependent on the excitement, enthusiasm, and “pup-licity” built by its candidates. Candidates’ humans are encouraged to run their campaigns on social media to advocate why their pet is the best candidate and, most importantly, encourage everyone to get out and vote!
