Review draft goals and strategies shaped by your input
Provide input on prioritization of what the City should accomplish in the short and long term
In fall 2025, staff and consultants gathered community input through a survey, focus groups, pop-up events, board presentations, and a public open house. We saw strong participation and received thoughtful, valuable feedback.
We heard you! During the first round of engagement, hundreds of community members shared what matters most (View the survey result report). That input has been compiled, and we’re now entering the second round of public engagement—an opportunity to review the draft goals and strategies shaped by your feedback and help confirm we’re on the right path.
Ninety-three percent of survey respondents said parks, recreation, open space, trails, and golf amenities are important to why they live in Louisville. These aren’t just nice-to-haves—they’re part of what makes this community home. Now is the time to help ensure the next decade reflects what matters most to you.
A list of upcoming events is available on the right-hand side of this page, along with links to key documents. Please take a few minutes to review the drafts and attend a public event to share your feedback.
Following this final round of public engagement, the draft plan will be created and presented to City Council in April 2026, with the goal of finalizing the plan in June 2026.
So now is the time to review the plans, attend the events, ask questions, and have your voice heard.
We need your input to help guide the future of our Parks, Open Spaces, Trails, Recreation & Senior Center, and Golf Course!
Big things are happening in Louisville—and we want you to join us on the journey!
The Parks, Recreation & Open Space (PROS) Department is creating a new Guidebook to outline department priorities for the next 10+ years.
The Guidebook includes two related plans:
The Long-Range Plan: for Parks, Open Spaces, Recreation & Senior Center, and Coal Creek Golf Course
The Trail System Plan: for trails and trail connections
To get it right, we need to hear from the people who live, work, play, walk, bike, gather, and explore here—that means you. Your input will make sure the Guidebook reflects the diverse interests and evolving needs of the Louisville community.
Because this Guidebook isn’t just about plans—it’s about people. It’s a chance to align community values with real action, helping to ensure that the places you care about continue to support connection, wellness, and quality of life for years to come. Public input will help shape the plan’s focus and discussions will likely include topics such as outdoor recreation amenities, playgrounds, courts, conservation of natural areas, trails, facilities, programs, land acquisitions, and more.
Do you have ideas or opinions about:
Trails & Trail Connections
Pickleball & Tennis Courts
Land Management & Fire Mitigation
Golf Course Facilities
Preschool & Youth Programs
Playgrounds & Park Shelters

We want to hear from you—and we’re listening. The more people who participate, the better this plan can reflect the full range of voices in Louisville. Whether you’re a dog park regular, a senior center visitor, a golfer, or a parent of young kids—your voice matters. We look forward to hearing your ideas and insights as we shape this important Guidebook together.

The Guidebook is intended to give the PROS Department direction for the next 10+ years. It will:
Replace the current Parks and Recreation Master Plan (last updated in 2012)
Create the City’s first Trails Master Plan, as identified by the City Charter
Complement previous plans (including the City Comprehensive Plan) and inform future studies, plans, and priorities
Who's Involved
The planning process is being led by City of Louisville Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department staff. The City has hired a consulting team led by DTJ Design, who brings significant subject matter expertise at the local and national level.
